Ready to renew your US passport?
You can renew your US passport by mail if your most recent U.S. passport is undamaged and can be submitted with your new passport application. If your old US passport is mutilated, altered or damaged, you cannot apply for a new US passport by mail. You need to apply in person.
Also, when was your old passport issued to you? Was it issued when you were age 16 or older? If your answer is yes, then you’re qualified to submit your passport renewal by mail.
How old is your previous US passport? You need to make sure that this old passport was issued within the last 15 years because if it was over 15 years already, then you will have to submit your new passport application in person. Also, make certain that you will still be using the same name that was printed on your old passport or you can legally document your name change.
