When can you send your application to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)? Using an application form provided by the USCIS, you can turn your USCIS application by mail, within the 90-days before your permanent resident card (green card) expires. In case of an N-400 application, you can send your US citizenship application 90 days before your required years of permanent residence expires. However, this does not change the fact that you are ONLY eligible for any application after the required period has passed.
It is important to know and estimate time from the starting date of your eligibility. You can only trun your application WITHIN the 90-day period.
Do not send your application too early. I heard a few cases of applicants whose USCIS application was returned to sender because they applied earlier than their eligibility period. The 90-day early filing date period compensates to the fact that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services probably will not be able to act on your application right away.
The 90-Day Early Application Rule by the USCIS also applies to other USCIS applications including the following:
1. I-751, Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence
2. I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card
3. N-400, Application for Naturalization
